Charging System Basics:
An engine’s electrical system is said to be a 12-volt system, but this is slightly misleading. The charging system in most aircraft will generally produce a voltage between 13.5 and 14.4 volts while the engine is running. It has to generate more voltage than the battery’s rated voltage to overcome the internal resistance of the battery. This may seem strange, but the current needed to recharge the battery would not flow at all if the charging system’s output voltage was the same as the battery voltage. A greater difference of potential (voltage) between the battery’s voltage and the alternator’s output voltage will provide a faster charging rate. Thus a Lithium battery will charge quicker than the typical sealed ( or AGM type) lead-acid battery.
Why Choose a BSLBATT Lithium Aircraft Batteries for Your Experimental?
You’ll instantly remove 11+ pounds compared to the lead-acid battery in your experimental aircraft! Now that’s a huge weight saving.
Significant increase in cranking power. If you’ve been using the PC680, you’ll increase your CCA’s from 170 to 320 and the PCA’s from 520 to 680! Now that’s the power to crank your engine!
You can easily have a backup battery and not worry about the additional weight. In fact, if you switch from a lead-acid battery and add a backup battery, so you have a primary and a backup, you’ve still decreased your overall weight by 50%!
Innovative and sophisticated BMS designed and engineered with redundancy for safety, reliability, and performance. These are EXCLUSIVE features!
Things to Consider When Choosing the Right Battery for Your Plane:
1. Can it turn the engine over (CCA)?
2. Does it have enough capacity to run your needed instruments if the alternator/generator fails (true amp hours)?
3. Is it designed for the application you are using it in (alternator/generator max amperage output)?
