The battery can be switched between active mode and shelf mode with the Activation Switch. Prior to long periods of storage, disconnect the battery from the system, connect the activation switch to the RS485 UP Communication Port of the battery, and long press the Power Button for 3 seconds to switch the battery to shelf mode.
The lithium battery has low temperature charging and discharging protection function. When the temperature is below 0℃, it will stop charging. When the temperature is below -20℃, it will stop discharging.
The activation switch will allow you to manually access shelf mode. This is where the battery will have a very low self-discharge rate and can hold charge for longer, protecting your battery when not in use.

Lithium batteries are cheaper than lead-acid batteries when the costs are considered over the period of use.
Lead-acid batteries lose significant capacity after a maximum of 800 charging cycles. A LiFePO4 battery, on the other hand, masters 3,000 charging cycles without any problems and also offers good performance for the subsequent 7,000 cycles.
This means that a BSLBATT® lithium battery lasts at least as long as three lead batteries, even when used intensively.
A regular deep discharge of more than 50% is not recommended for lead-acid batteries, as the number of possible cycles drops disproportionately. A lithium battery, on the other hand, can be regularly discharged up to 90% without any problems, without the number of cycles suffering as a result. A 100Ah lithium battery can usually replace a 200Ah lead battery.
In terms of weight, a lithium battery is clearly preferable to a lead battery.
A typical 100Ah lead acid battery weighs around 32 kilograms. A lithium battery with the same capacity weighs just 14.5 kilograms. Thus, the weight saving is more than 50%. If a 200Ah lead battery is replaced with a 100Ah lithium battery, the weight saving doubles again.
The Battery Management System (BMS) built into each battery ensures that the battery is protected from improper use. For example, it switches off the battery in the event of Undervoltage or overvoltage and automatically switches it on again as soon as the problem has been solved.
Thanks to the integrated Bluetooth interface, the battery status can be conveniently monitored at any time via smartphone or tablet (Android or Apple iOS). Elaborately wired battery monitors are no longer necessary.

BSLBATT Lithium batteries perform best when charged by a lithium compatible charger. Lead acid or SLA chargers, on-board chargers for AGM batteries, or other non-lithium chargers will charge a BSLBATT Lithium battery but only to 70-80% of capacity. This is because Dakota Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology charges and is full at a higher voltage then traditional batteries (BSLBATT Lithium charges at 14.4 Volts). Chargers with a lithium battery setting or designed for lithium will charge at the appropriate voltage.
The industry standard house battery size used in most RVs, Campers, and #VanLife builds is the B-LFP12V-100Ah battery. This is a drop in replacement for AGM and most lead acid batteries. If you are charging off your engine’s alternator we recommend a Victron DC-DC smart charger. If charging off solar panels we recommend a Victron Smart Solar charge controller, or if you have a solar charge controller choose the lithium setting. BSLBATT Lithium batteries are 100% safe & reliable. Our signature chemistry, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), does not contain rare earth elements (like Cobalt) or heavy metals, is non-toxic, including no lead or acid, is non-corrosive, does not off gas, requires no watering or maintenance, can be placed in any orientation, and unlike other lithium batteries will not explode or catch fire. In addition, each BSLBATT Lithium battery is protected from over heating, over charging, and short circuiting, by a battery management system (BMS) microchip that also extends the lifespan and is contained in a rugged, waterproof case (although enough water can conduct electricity between the terminals, so don’t submerse the battery). For best performance & reliability we recommend using a LiFePO4 charger.
LiFePO4 batteries should be “topped off” after each use. For greatest longevity, we recommend not fully discharging the battery nor over-charging by leaving it connected to a charger well beyond its full charge cycle. Remember that over the long term, the battery has a limited number of charge and discharge cycles with “one cycle” being either a complete charge and discharge cycle, or a cumulative of both to add up to a full cycle.
Store BSLBATT Lithium batteries in a cool dry place, and be sure to fully charge them before storage. If storing it for an extended period of time, we advise charging them up at regular intervals–typically “topping off” every month or every other month. Yes! Connecting multiple batteries together to create a higher voltage is called connecting in series. Our 12V batteries can be connected in series up to 48V maximum. For more on wiring batteries in series or parallel, both processes are detailed fully here.
Make sure the load is not exceeding the rated continuous output current. If the electrical load exceeds the limits of the BMS, the BMS will shut down the pack. To reset, disconnect the electrical load and troubleshoot your load and make sure that the continuous current is less than the maximum continuous current for the pack. To reset the pack, attach the charger back to the battery for a few seconds. They can not be put completely under water. Water can be splashed on them and they will be okay.
No, you cannot turn off the battery or change the BMS board.
Every battery of ANY chemistry has the potential to fail, sometimes catastrophically, or catch on fire. In addition, lithium metal batteries which are more volatile, are non-rechargeable, and are not to be confused with lithium-ion batteries. However, the lithium-ion chemistry used in BSLBATT Lithium Batteries, lithium iron phosphate cells (LiFePO4) is the safest on the market having the highest thermal runaway threshold temperature of all the different lithium types of batteries. Remember, there are many lithium-ion chemistries and variations. Some are more volatile than others, but all have made advances in recent years. Also note, that all lithium batteries undergo rigorous UN testing before they can be shipped worldwide further insuring their safety.
At the moment, Lithium materials are about 3~4 times higher than lead-acid for the same capacity. This will no doubt come down as worldwide supply goes up.
12V Lithium batteries are subject to disposal and recycling regulations that vary by country and region. Always check and follow your applicable regulations before disposing of any battery. Many countries prohibit the disposal of waste electronic equipment in standard waste receptacles. Place only discharged batteries in a battery collection container. Use electrical tape or other approved covering over the battery connection points to prevent short circuits.
